Around the Empire

New York Daily News | Ian Powers: The Yankees will not have a reunion with Carlos Beltran in 2017. The only time he will be at Yankee Stadium is in the visitor’s locker room when the Houston Astros come calling, as they have signed Beltran to a one-year, $16 million deal. Being that Minute Maid Park has a train in it, it makes sense that they were all aboard the Beltrain. Meanwhile, the Yankees will have to look elsewhere for their rumored big bat signing.

Newsday | Erik Boland: The winter meetings will be upon us very shortly. Brian Cashman has a plan for them, besides global domination. Pitching is the plan. A big bat is also on the agenda, but Cashman is stressing the need for pitching. Of course, pitching is probably the plan for the majority of teams there, both starting pitching and the bullpen. With the “potato bread” free agent market of pitching available, look for a trade to possible be in the works.

New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: More prediction here on what Brian Cashman and the Yankees will try and get done during the upcoming winter meetings. With Beltran off the table, Edwin Encarnacion could be back on it. The Yankees could try and bring back Aroldis Chapman, although the price for him will be steep. Perhaps a trade for a starting pitcher. Exciting times.

New York Daily News | Christian Red: With so many new young prospects in the Yankees’ farm system, it’s hard not to be excited about the future. One such prospect, Clint Frazier, is excited about his future and the future of the Yankees. He is hoping that he and other prospects can help lead the Yankees to a new dynasty. Lofty goals for sure.

Fun Questions

  • With Beltran on the Astros, who are you hoping the Yankees pick up for a big bat DH?
  • Predict a crazy trade that will happen during the winter meetings. This does not have to involve the Yankees.
