Around the Empire

Newsday | Mark Herrmann: In today’s episode of “I’ll have what he’s having” Yankee manager Joe Girardi said that he expects the Yankees to compete with the Red Sox for the division title. Seriously though, this kind of answer is to be expected from the team’s manager and it’s the right attitude to have. Transition period or not, the goal is always to do your best and win. It’s what you want.

New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: Speaking of what you want, Greg Bird. Bird has given us the word that he feels so much better than he did before. He is hoping to make an impact on the team in 2017. Of course, the first base job is not entirely his yet. He will have some competition at the position with Tyler Austin also lobbying for the job.

New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: The Pirates were rumored to be shopping Andrew McCutchen during the Winter Meetings. There were more rumors that the Pirates, the Yankees, and the White Sox potentially had a three-team trade in the works. Obviously nothing has come of that. When asked about it, Girardi said that it was more of a Brian Cashman question.

It’s New Beginnings Week on Pinstripe Alley. This song, as I was told, gives off the vibe of a song you play when you’re leaving a place you just really don’t like. Well, I really don’t like 2016 so this song fits very well. As always, please link us your song of the day.
