Around the Empire
FanRag Sports | Jim Finch: Matt Holliday wasn’t the most appealing DH option for the Yankees heading into 2017. However, don’t count the 37-year old out just yet. Even though his batting average dropped, there’s evidence to suggest that Holliday could have a monster comeback year. He’s maintained his solid contract rate and still hits the ball with some authority. For you fantasy baseball people, don’t discount Holliday as a late-round pickup either.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: CC Sabathia is coming off his best season since 2012 and took some time to answer some questions regarding Christmas. He talks about how his family gets really festive this time of year and shares some of his family’s traditions. Most notably, he also mentioned that he feels great following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and has no doubts about being ready for spring training.
Pinstriped Prospects | Jed Weisberger: The Yankees should consider bringing Peter O’Brien back to the organization on a MiLB deal. O’Brien, who was traded for Martin Prado in 2014, was released from the Diamondbacks’ organization last week. The biggest problem with O’Brien is that he has no real position, but he does offer some promise as a hitter. He has a powerful bat and will strikeout a lot, like most power hitters, but if he could work on his patience, he could possibly provide the Yankees with a cheap, young, long-term DH in the near future. With Holliday on the roster for 2017, it’s not like he’ll be rushed or anything either.
Fun Questions
- Should the Yankees consider bringing O’Brien back on a minor league deal?

Song of the Day
I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash
It’s New Beginnings Week on Pinstripe Alley. Thankfully, it’s the final week of 2016. While 2017 doesn’t look too promising either, at least we’ll be able to put this dreadful year behind us and start over again. So this week we’ll have songs about looking ahead to the future and new beginnings. As always, please link us your song of the day.
