Around the Empire

New York Post | George A. King III: Greg Bird. Now that we have your attention, more about Greg Bird. If there’s one player that the fans and front office will be looking at come spring training, it is Greg Bird. He will be competing with Tyler Austin for the now Teixeira-less first base role. Overall, Bird is just looking forward to getting back with the team in the locker room. We’re all rooting for you.

New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: The White Sox are selling some Christmas presents this year. One such gift might be Jose Quintana. Yesterday, rumors were abound that the Yankees were interested in Quintana due to their obvious need for pitching. As obvious as that need is, it doesn’t seem like anything came of this rumor. The asking price for Quintana is probably more than the Yankees are willing to part with. Humbug? Humbug! | Joe Giglio: There have been talks that quite a few teams are interested in Brett Gardner. The Yankees do not seem to be willing to part with the gritty, gutty one for anything other than a “strong return.” Those are strong words. Meanwhile, Chase Headley is still around and it doesn’t seem like he’s going anywhere. Maybe the Braves would like him? If only he were a former Yankee prospect.

New York Post | David K. Li: The Staten Island Yankees were going to change their name for the 2017 season. The choices included the Pizza Rats, Killer Bees, Bridge Trolls, Rock Pigeons, or Heroes. The final decision was to not use any of these names and remain the Staten Island Yankees for another year until certain legal matters could be ironed out. Now we can hope for A-Rod Corp to buy the team, name it the Staten Island Rods, and make the logo the A-Rod Corp logo.

Fun Questions

  • What would you be willing to give up to get Jose Quintana?
  • What would you like to get for Brett Gardner?

Song of the Day

All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey

It’s X-Mas Week on Pinstripe Alley. I don’t know if everyone thinks that this song should apply for Jose Quintana. A pitcher would be nice for X-Mas though. As always, please link us your song of the day!
