The more and more I think about it, the more and more I don't think signing Trumbo would be a bad idea. I'd primarily use him at 3B. He doesn't have an overwhelming amount of 3B experience, but he has played it in the past. Plus, he has played 1B and RF, so he gives us some options when/if players get injured, need a day off, or are in a slump. Trumbo has power and he's 3 years younger than Encarnacion and probably won't cost as much as Encarnacion. The lineup would be:
Elsbury
Gardner
Sanchez
Trumbo
Holiday
Bird
Castro
Didi
Judge/Hicks
Not a bad lineup, IMO. We could then trade Headly for a SP, or we could keep Headly at 3B, use Trumbo in the OF, and move Gardy for a SP. If we can sign Trumbo to a decent deal that doesn't hamstring us in the future, what do you all think? What do you think the chances are of actually being able to sign him to a decent deal that doesn't hamstring our future?
