Around the Empire
Yahoo Sports | Mark Townsend: It used to be that whatever the Yankees wanted, they’d get. Free agents, trade targets, whatever it was, if the Yankees wanted a player he’d eventually be in pinstripes. However, now it seems like that happens more with the Red Sox than the Yankees. So does that make the Red Sox baseball’s new “Evil Empire?” Considering they’re doing everything that people used to hate about the Yankees, it may be the case, but they’re certainly not cool enough to be called the Evil Empire.
WEEI.com | Rob Bradford: Last week Brian Cashman made some headlines after the Chris Sale trade when he referred to the Red Sox as MLB’s Golden State Warriors. In the spirit of gamesmanship, Cashman says he fully intends to keep “the pressure on” the Red Sox with statements like that. Dave Dombrowski, for his part, says his team is ready to embrace expectations and also mentioned that the Yankees are in a position where they have good organizational talent.
New York Post | Ken Davidoff: MLB is losing its perpetually middling teams. The teams that constantly hover between 75-85 wins, they’re not really good but they’re not exactly bad teams either. The Cubs are one of a number of teams that set forth a blueprint for success by stockpiling youngsters. The Yankees became one of those teams over this past year after they sold at the trade deadline and restocked the entire farm system.
- If the Red Sox are indeed the new “Evil Empire” of baseball, come up with a name more befitting them.
