Around the Empire

New York Daily News | Christian Red: There will be baseball in 2017. The CBA negotiations between the player’s union and Major League Baseball came to a close last night with both sides agreeing on a new CBA. Information is still coming out regarding all that was agreed upon. Stay tuned for more info.

New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: With a new CBA in place, the Yankees are ready to get back to their offseason task of building a team for 2017. After finding out the new luxury tax threshold, Hal Steinbrenner reportedly scrapped his “only Stephew Drew” plan. Now that everything’s good to go, here’s hoping that Cashman gives us some sweet ninja moves.

New York Post | George A. King III: The Yankees are looking to add an impact bat and a true DH to their roster. Industry sources claim that they are seriously considering Matt Holliday as a DH and backup first baseman. Cashman could potentially take a Holliday from spending a lot on an Edwin Encarnacion by signing Matt. Naturally, I want him for easy pun purposes. Get it done, Cash.

MLB Trade Rumors | Steve Adams: This isn’t really Yankees news, but I kind of want it to be. Quite a few sources out there claim that the Pirates are actively shopping around fan-favorite swashbuckler Andrew McCutchen. It’s unclear what the Yankees could offer the Pirates for McCutchen. These teams have exchanged players before. Perhaps they’d like another backup catcher.

Fun Questions

  • Which players would you be willing to trade to the Pirates for McCutchen, if any?
  • Besides the obvious “Cutch is Clutch” call, what would John Sterling’s HR call for McCutchen be?
