Around the Empire

NJ.com | Randy Miller: Taking a deeper look at some of the 40-man roster moves the Yankees the other day. Kyle Higashioka and Domingo German were added to the roster while Nathan Eovaldi, Chad Green, Branden Pinder, Nick Rumbelow, and Dustin Ackley were reinstated from the 60-day disabled list.

LoHud Yankees Blog | Pete Caldera: Assessing the Yankees’ needs throughout the roster and trying to see what moves the team might make over the offseason. As is pretty well known, the Yankees are expected to pursue Aroldis Chapman or another top tier closer, and in what has become annual winter tradition like putting up Christmas decorations, Brett Gardner could be on the trading block.

MLB.com | Matt Monagan: Even though his team lost the Japan Series, Hiroki Kuroda still got to celebrate a pennant parade for his Hiroshima Carp advancing that far. After the parade, which ended up back at their stadium, Kuroda walked out to the mound one final time and bid a tearful goodbye to fans and the game of baseball. Best of luck in retirement, #HIROK!

CBS Sports | Matt Snyder: In not-so-breaking news, the Yankees biggest need for this offseason is starting pitching. While the free agent market for starters is considered pretty thin, a new name has been thrown into the ring now that the Cubs have declined Jason Hammel’s option for 2017.

Fun Questions

  • Should the Yankees pursue Jason Hammel?
  • Is this the year Gardner finally gets traded or is he a Yankee on Opening Day?
