Around the Empire

New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Hal Steinbrenner appeared on the first Yankees Hot Stove of the offseason last night. Hal asked why Jack Curry wasn’t using The Clash for his segment. Okay, that did not happen. It should have though. What Hal did say was that he expects Aaron Judge to be his right fielder next season. He understand that Judge has to work on things this offseason, but his expectations for the young prospect are still there.

Newsday | Erik Boland: Nathan Eovaldi is no longer a Yankee, as the team released him yesterday. The Yankees also released Nick Rumbelow and Joe Mantiply. After releasing these pitchers who have Pokemon names for last names, the Yankees have cleared some space on the 40-man roster. Farewell, Nathan Eovaldi. We can still hope that Yankees beat writer Bathan Eovaldi will be sticking around.

NJ.com | Joe Giglio: A good portion of MLB seems to be on the “Gleyber is Good” express. One National League assistant to a GM said that Torres has some similar special qualities that a young Derek Jeter had. An “it” factor, if you will. It’s nice that expectation are high for Gleyber, but I think we need to calm down and just wait a bit before comparing him to a future Hall of Fame player like Jeter just get Gleyber’s spot in Monument Park ready, cause soon he’ll be cruising to the Hall of Fame his way.

New York Daily News | AP: Speaking of doing it his way, apparently Derek Jeter is addicted to golf. Yesterday, Jeter joined Tino Martinez, Olympic gold medalist Justin Rose, and relatively unknown golfer Tiger Woods at the Albany Golf Club. Woods is planning a comeback in the world of golf. Jeter is probably not planning a comeback to the world of baseball, except in the form of Gleyber Torres.
