Around the Empire
New York Post | Joel Sherman: A new collective bargaining agreement will hopefully soon be agreed upon by the players and owners. Our owner, Hal Steinbrenner, still wants to get the Yankees under the luxury-tax threshold, whatever that may be. With that in mind, Sherman takes a look at what the roster might/should look like if they continue with Hal’s plan.
Fanrag | Jon Heyman: Speaking of a new CBA, talks between the owners and the player’s union are set to continue today. As of right now, they have until Thursday to come up with a mutual agreement. If they do not, there could be a potential lockout. That would be bad.
MiLB.com | Daren Smith: Gleyber Torres is okay. His performance at the AFL was also okay. The Yankees have announced that their 2nd ranked prospect in the farm system will begin the year playing for the Double-A Trenton Thunder. Brian Cashman has high praise for both Torres’ hitting and his versatility in the field. Gleyber Good.
New York Post | Mark W. Sanchez: Dellin Betances is now a married man. On Friday, Betances had former Yankees and current ones at his wedding in New Jersey. There are some great photos in there, including Robinson Cano and Carlos Beltran. Since Beltran is in town, perhaps the Yankees should sign him.
Fun Questions
- What would you get Dellin Betances for a wedding present?
- What do you want for Christmas?
Song of the Day
Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes by Paul Simon
It’s Ben Diamond Week on Pinstripe Alley. The only real reason this week’s theme exists is that we were at a bar and simply decided that this would be the theme for no good reason. Songs this week will deal with either Ben/Benjamins or Diamonds. As always, please link us your song of the day.
