Around the Empire
Newsday | Mark Carig: The Yankees ended the week in full protection mode. Additions to the 40-man roster were announced yesterday in order to protect players from being taken in the Rule 5 draft. Jorge Mateo, Miguel Andujar, Dietrich Enns, Giovanny Gallegos, Ronald Herrera and Yefrey Ramirez were all added to the roster. To make room for them, Nathan Eovaldi, Nick Rumbelow, and Joe Mantiply were all DFA’d. It looks like the Mantiply era is over. Be sure to pour one out.
New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Perhaps you heard that Brian McCann, official water taster and catcher, was traded to the Houston Astros for a pair of prospects. McCann tells the Daily News that the reason he waived his NTC was so that he could catch every day. This makes sense, as he knew that wasn’t going to happen on the Yankees. Essentially, we are all Gary now.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: With McCann headed to Minute Maid Park, the Yankees have an opening at DH. Brian Cashman said that the Yankees are now in line to add a big bat to their lineup. They could potentially reunite with Carlos Beltran. Perhaps they will want to sign Joe Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, or Yoenis Cespedes instead. The hot stove is lit.
Pinstriped Prospects | Robert M. Pimpsner: Yesterday, the Yankees traded James Pazos to the Seattle Mariners for Zack Littell. Some described this move as a blockbuster deal. Others, shockingly, did not. Odds are you know very Littell about Zack. This article will help a Littell bit with that. As you can see, I am already a big fan of this Littell trade.
- If Zack Littell were a hitter, what would his John Sterling HR call be?

Song of the Day
Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye by Leonard Cohen
It’s Leonard Cohen week on Pinstripe Alley. I figured this was an appropriate song in lieu of yesterday’s roster moves. As always, please link us your song of the day.
