Around the Empire

New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: The hot stove is lit and, as Tanya reported yesterday, the Houston Astros may wish to acquire Brian McCann. Of course, McCann has a NTC in his contract he would have to waive if he wanted to catch on a more daily basis. It is also curious what the Astros would offer for him. Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa for McCann seems like a fair deal to me.

New York Daily News | Anthony McCarron: YES Broadcaster and friend of the site, David Cone, recently expressed his views that the Yankees could use Chapman back to sure up the bullpen. More importantly, he feels that they need to give Luis Severino another shot at the rotation. Severino is still young and the “potato bread” free agent pitching doesn’t look great.

Hardball Talk | Craig Calcaterra: Speaking of the Aroldis Chapman, the Yankees are still interesting in his services. So are the Dodgers and other teams. If they want him, they might have to pony up some cash as Chapman is reportedly looking for a $100 million dollar contract. In many ways, aren’t we all though?

New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Yesterday there was talk about the Yankees being interested in Yoenis Cespedes. Cespedes helped the Metspedes make it back to the playoffs. As of right now, this particular rumor seems to have Noenis legs to stand on. Okay, I’ll stop.

Today’s Knuckleball | Wayne Cavadi: The Yankees need pitching. The Yankees have some interesting and potentially exciting pitchers in the minors. Austin DeCarr could potentially be one of those pitchers. Drafted in 2014 in the third round, DeCarr suffered an elbow injury that kept him sidelined for 2015 and half of 2016. Here’s hoping DeCarr drives back onto the road to the majors.

Fun Questions

  • What do you bring to a potluck?
  • Realistically, or unrealistically, what would you like back from the Astros for McCann?
