Around the Empire

New York Daily News | Mark Feinsand: Brian Cashman gave his annual “State of the Yankees” press conference yesterday. The primary topic of discussion was pitching. The Yankees need to fortify their pitching staff, but not at the expense of selling the farm to do so. Thus far, it seems unlikely that they’re going to trade for a top of the line ace. Sorry to the fans of Chris Sale out there.

Newsday | Erik Boland: One of the biggest pitching concerns coming into this season had to do with CC Sabathia. Now that the season is over with, it is refreshing to say that he had a good year. Despite a rough middle, Sabathia put together a season worthy of the Comeback Player of the Year award. If he can keep that up for next year, that’s one less thing to worry about regarding the rotation. Praise be.

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman both have contracts that expire at the end of the 2017 season. As of right now, no talks of extensions are on the table. Before you get too excited, Fire Girardi and Fire Cashman fans, keep in mind that the Steinbrenners could simply be waiting to see how things play out with the youth movement. Or it’s just early in the offseason.

LoHud Yankees Blog | Chad Jennings: The Yankees have already been making some roster moves. In addition to adding Kyle Higashioka, the Angels have claimed relievers Kirby Yates and Blake Parker off of waivers. Anthony Swarzak was outrighted off the roster and he has elected to become a free agent. Good luck with that.

Fun Questions

  • Of the three relievers mentioned in the last article, create a John Sterling home run call for one of them
  • It’s an Even Year. Are the Giants going to win it all?

Black or White by Michael Jackson

It’s Mark Teixeira Week on Pinstripe Alley. For a brief time, Tex went with another Michael Jackson song as his walk-up music. It did not last long at all. As always, please link us your song of the day.
