Around the Empire

Newsday | Mark Herrmann: The Yankees season will come to an end today. Mark Teixeira’s playing career will also come to an end today. Once a rookie under the tutelage of former Yankees manager and current Orioles manager Buck Showalter, Teixeira is now helping the Yankees current crop of rookies out. Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge love to pick his brain. Here’s hoping he gives us one last Tex Face for the road.

Newsday | Laura Albanese: Speaking of Aaron Judge, the young rookie made quite an impact on his first day in the majors. I was there and it was wonderful. However, his adjustment to the majors did not go as planned afterwards. Girardi says that Judge needs to work on reducing the number of strikeouts. Judge is not guaranteed to make the team out of spring training.

The New York Times | Billy Witz: Joe Girardi has held many a press conference this year. You might have noticed all the different t-shirts he has worn during the pregame conferences. That was a year long effort to bring attention to a different charity. A noble effort, to say the least. It was a wonderful thing to see from the Yankees’ manager and I hope he continues this tradition next season.

New York Daily News | Andy Clayton: Former Yankee SS and current blog entrepreneur Derek Jeter has a simple message for the Michigan football team; “RE2PECT IS EARNED!” As if telling that team to do things his way, Jeter handed the team “RE2PECT IS EARNED” t-shirts, because obviously RE2PECT IS EARNED. Yes, I cannot stop saying that. Thanks Jeets.

You know, I’m not quite sure why Tyler Austin is Captain America, but I’m perfectly okay with it.
