With Justin Upton now on the Detroit Tigers, the next name on everyone's mind is Yoenis Cespedes. It is still unclear where he is going or how much he's going to sign for. There has been speculation that there's not much interest in him, but people were saying that about Justin Upton and he got an Upton of money from Detroit. There are several teams that could use Yoenis' servicespedes. Currently, all eyes are on the New York Mets. Their current outfield is nothing to write home about and Cespedes helped get the Mets to the playoffs. They would seem like the perfect fit, except that the Mets are owned by the Wilpons. It could also be that Sandy Alderson does not want to give a big contract to a player who has bounced around from team to team. Even if he did though, the Wilpons might not want to pay up.
Meanwhile, apparently the Nationals have made him an offer. Now I cannot be sure about this since I root root root for the Yankees, but if the Nats got Cespedes I imagine that Mets fans would think that a shame. Well, not so much a shame as it would be a infuriating thing to see. That all depends on the money and years though. Hal Steinbrenner kinda trolled the Mets & Yankees fans yesterday by saying "you never know" in regards to them signing Cespedes. Unless they trade Gardner, it's not happening. With Upton now bolstering the Tigers already formidable lineup, some have suggested that the Chicago White Sox should try to acquire him. That might be worth it just to hear Hawk pronounce his name alone.Comments of the Day
The only proper answers to the classic "How is Cashman doing?" question
GIF of the Day
I have no idea what this means, but I think it's a hilarious GIF.
Honorable Mod Mention
Andrew wins for his post about Coney, which should provoke another angry fanpost at him. ISN'T THAT RIGHT, ANDREW MEARNS?
Fun Questions
- Hal jokingly said that we shouldn't rule the Yankees out in the Cespedes chase. If you could sign Cespedes, what kind of contract would you give him?
- If the Yankees did sign Cespedes, what would John Sterling's HR call for him be?
Song of the Day
Still Into You by Vitamin String Quartet
It's Vitamin String Quartet week on Pinstripe Alley. Personally, I think this cover of the song by Paramore is better than the original. As always, please link us your song of the day.
Feel free to use this as your open thread for the day. It's still DC Week on TV and tonight, Legends of Tomorrow! Cannot wait.
