After yesterday's hard-luck loss, the Yankees really need a win tonight to take the series against the Rays. The Yankees are just 1.5 games behind the Blue Jays, so every game counts as they try to keep pace with Toronto. If anything could make this a bigger challenge for New York, though, it's the matchup between Ivan Nova and Chris Archer. Nova has been mediocre since returning from Tommy John surgery, while Archer is one of the toughest young pitchers out there. In his career, Archer is 5-0 with a 1.78 ERA over eight starts against the Yankees, so this should be a challenge. Luckily, the Yankees seem to have Jacoby Ellsbury back after the center fielder was dealing with flu-like symptoms.
