New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox: Luis Severino vs. Erik Johnson

The 2015 Yanks can inch one step closer to a playoff spot by winning today and securing a four-game series victory.

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Postseason baseball is almost back in the Bronx. First though, the Yankees have to seal up a playoff spot, and their magic number is down to four after the victory over the White Sox yesterday. The race for the second AL Wild Card spot is kind of a hot mess right now with the Astros only half a game ahead of the Angels and a game and a half ahead of the Twins, so the the only way the magic number will decrease without Yankee help right now is if both the Rangers and Mariners beat the Astros and Angels, respectively, or if the Astros win and the Angels lose.

The easiest solution for the Yankees is to just care of business on their own. Win today, and the magic number will be the Bambino. It's rookie sensation Luis Severino against Erik Johnson, a mostly anonymous righty who enters the day with a 6.02 FIP. As demonstrated over the past few games, the White Sox are simply not a good team, either.

So a win would be neat. You can watch today's game on YES, WGN, or MLB.tv at 1:05pm.

Go Yankees, go baseball.
