We have watched a lot of baseball this year. With only eleven games left in the season, the Yankees have certainly played a lot of it. I don't think I've seen a series this year quite as unlucky as the series we just played against the Blue Jays. There were no breaks at all, except for a Greg Bird home run in the second game. When Alex Rodriguez went up against David Price, a bloop double that could have scored two runs was an inch foul. In game two, a Didi Gregorius double that would have scored a run wound up bouncing over the walls. Yesterday, a Russell Martin was almost thrown out at first by Chase Headley on a "just foul" bouncer to third. Couple that with a ball an inch outside of the strike zone that was called a strike a good portion of the night and you have the Yankees losing the series to the Blue Jays. Opportunities still existed and the Yankees didn't capitalize, but man I haven't seen a series so one-sided with luck all year long.
Yet despite all of that, the Yankees are still not out of the hunt for the division lead. In case Yankee fans already forgot the wisdom of the late, great Yogi Berra, "It ain't over till it's over." The Blue Jays have a 3.5 game lead, but their last three series of the year are against the Rays and the Orioles. They have not fared well against the Rays this year, so it's very possible for them to lose. Baseball is funny like that. Believe me, given what we just witnessed these past three games, it may just be their year. Stranger things have happened though.
Comments of the Day
Jackie Robinson was out. He was out then and he's still out now. R.I.P. Yogi.
Not stomping and pouting one's feet? What a novel concept!

Honorable Mod Mention
Andrew wins for his touching post about Yogi Berra. You should read it if you haven't yet.

Song of the Day
All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix
It's Cover Songs Week on Pinstripe Alley. Today's cover song comes from Jimi Hendrix, who covers this song from Bob Dylan. I've heard this song a lot from trailers for The Martian, a movie I'm really excited to see. This song is probably what inspired this week's theme. As always, please link us your song of the day.
Feel free to use this as your open thread for the day. Ivan Nova pitched a gem of a game yesterday and just got no run support. Hopefully that will not be the case for Michael Pineda tonight, even though the Yankees offense will have to contend with Chris Sale.
go yankees go baseball there's too much confusion i can't get no relief
