New York Yankees @ New York Mets: Masahiro Tanaka vs. Steven Matz

Meet the Matz, beat the Mets.

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

It's time for the biggest regular season Subway Series in the history of the Yankees / Mets rivalry. The two teams have never met this late in the schedule while both in positions for playoff spots. The Mets lead the horrendously disappointing Nationals by eight games in the NL East and have that pretty much wrapped up, so they're just trying to whittle down their magic number and finish with a better record than the NL West-leading Dodgers to secure home field advantage in their inevitable NLDS matchup.

The Yankees, of course, have much more at stake. While they lead the way in the AL Wild Card by 5 1/2 games, they trail the Blue Jays by 3 1/2 games in the AL East with only 17 days left in the season, and Toronto is facing a far inferior Red Sox team this weekend while the Yankees contend with the NL East favorites. Lovely. Fortunately, they have their ace Masahiro Tanaka on the mound. The pressure will be on to take this game, even against the promising young Steven Matz. It will be tough with Alex Rodriguez on the bench due to the NL rules, but perhaps he can come up with a big pinch-hit later in the game.

The game will start at 7:10pm on YES, SNY, and MLB Network.

Go Yankees, go baseball, boo Queens, yay September.
