Baseball is a strange sport. Despite the records, the offense, the pitching, and everything that separates these two clubs in terms of talent, for some reason the Yankees seem to struggle against the Cleveland Indians this year. That's baseball for you. Even though Tanaka was not as sharp as he was against the Blue Jays, yesterday was still a very winnable game by normal Yankee offense standards. Justin Wilson's bad inning kind of put it away, but there were still plenty of innings before that in which they could have done something.
Why, let's take the bottom of the 8th inning for example. Bases loaded and two outs with Stephen Drew at the plate. I've said before that having to rely on offense from Drew means that the team is in trouble. Yesterday, the team was in trouble and had to rely on Drew to do something other than what he does 99 out of 100 times. No one should be surprised at what happened. At this point, it's hard to even be upset at Drew. He's not putting himself out there every night to fail. He is just our "hate vessel," a classic Pinstripe Alley term. In any case, sigh. Try to split this series at least, Yankees. You owe that to Jorge Posada on his special day!Comments of the Day
Michael Kay has a number of unlikable qualities, but trolling people who are upset at him for doing his job is pretty funny.
Glad to see that Michael Pineda is recovering well.
We may never know.
Some might call it a puffin button.
Few do.
GIF of the Day
Appropriate for both the beginning and the end of that game.
The Bird GIFs will probably be growing in number.
See?
Defeat!
Honorable Mod Mention
Scott Davis had to sit through this clusterbunt and then recap it. He wins the HMM.
Fun Questions
- If you were writing a Dr. Seuss book about Alex Rodriguez, what would you call it?
- What is your favorite Jorge Posada memory.
Song of the Day
Stronger by Kayne West
It's the last day of Flashback to the 2000s week here on Pinstripe Alley. Kayne West is a pretty prolific artist in the 2000s era. It's only right to end the week with a song from him. As always, please link us your song of the day.
Feel free to use this as your open thread for the day. Luis Severino will take the mound this afternoon. Hopefully the offense will actually score some runs for him and get him his first major league win. Also, Happy Jorge Posada Day.
