Wow. That was possibly the best win of the season last night. We might throw around that phrase quite often as fans, and it might be a bit of an exaggeration due to the fresh high we're still on from watching the Yankees beat the Rays with a three run Brian McCann bomb after a hard fought game. However, when you consider how terrible the Yankees have been in extra innings this year, last night's victory is going to be hard to top. The fact that said victory against our division rivals propelled the Yankees into first place is just the icing on the cake.
What needs to be pointed out is that the heart of the lineup really came through. If you watched all of the 2014 Yankees season, then you should probably be able to see the huge difference between last year's team and this year's team. The Yankees could not score runs last year. At all. It was painful to watch people get on and have no one to drive them in due to health or just plain ineptitude. Now our heart has a pulse. Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, and Brian McCann have really started to cement themselves as one of the best 3-4-5 combinations in the league. There's a reason the Yankees lead the majors in runs collected in the first inning. It's a really positive thing to see moving forward.Comments of the Day

Song of the Day
Don't Move from Commando by James Horner
It is James Horner week on Pinstripe Alley. This is the final entry from James Horner's illustrious and excellent catalog. I wanted this as my last entry because I feel this is one of his most underrated works, kind of like the movie itself. Commando is a movie I always use when I talk about how certain movies, especially action movies, need to be simple. Commando is a fantastic action movie because it respects the audience and gives it the only thing it's there to see, that being insane over the top action and hilarious Arnold quotes. Horner's soundtrack for this movie is also over the top and fits it perfectly, which is why I've always loved James Horner so much as a composer. Rest in peace. As always, please link us your song of the day.
Feel free to use this as your open thread for the day. Michael Pineda takes the mound for the Yankees on the Fourth of July. Independence Day is also the birthday for the radio voice of the Yankees, Mr. John Sterling, as well as "The Boss" himself, Mr. George Steinbrenner. Let's hope for a substantial win to celebrate everything special about this day.
