Nolan Ryan on Eovaldi; Chasen Shreve as a pleasant surprise; the rotation's competency; Marlins trade targets

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Chronicle | David Barron: Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan had a brief chat with Nathan Eovaldi before Saturday's game, and Ryan noted to the media that he had been following him for years and thought that he was a fine pitcher who is learning to make adjustments at the big league level.

New York Post | Joel Sherman: Giancarlo Stanton has a fractured left hamate bone, and that's bad news for the Marlins, a team that is already in dire straights. Because of this crippling injury, the Yankees may be interested in acquiring either Dan Haren, Mat Latos, or Martin Prado.

Asbury Park Press | Chad Jennings: Chase Whitley, having just undergone Tommy John surgery was encouraged to see Ivan Nova return from it with such a strong debut.

NJ.com | Ryan Hatch: Many thought the Yankees' bullpen would be excellent, but many are surprised by how good Chasen Shreve is. His ERA is sixth-best among all AL relievers, and he has been a reliable weapon in the later innings.
