The Yankees provided a nice opening salvo in Tampa last night, hammering the Rays 11-5 and helping CC Sabathia get his first win of the season. Overall, the team is 21-12 and has won 18 of their last 24 contests. That's not a bad little run, eh?
Tonight, Nathan Eovaldi takes the hill, hoping to put the Bronx Bombers up 2-0 in the series. "Evo," as Joe Girardi lovingly calls him (at least it doesn't end in a "y" or "ie"), has been a little inconsistent so far this season; sometimes even within a particular start. He'll be un-hittable in some innings, and very hittable in others. Despite all that, he sits at 3-0 on the season, with a very respectable 3.97 ERA. This will be his first start of the year against the Rays, so let's hope he surprises them a bit and the Yankees can win again.
It won't be easy for the offense today, as the Rays are sending out their most dependable starter right now, Chris Archer. Archer has a losing record on the year, but his ERA is just 2.59, and he's striking out over 10 men per nine. Runs might come at a premium at the Trop tonight.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM, with the game being broadcast on YES. You can also listen to John and Suzyn on WFAN, and you spanish speakers can tune in on WADO. As always, feel free to discuss the game in the comments below.
