This COTD thread is currently being written mere hours after having seen The Force Awakens. I have plenty of thoughts regarding said new Star Wars movie. All I will say on the matter is that I really liked it and that my favorite thing about it is that it was simple. Simple works so well for a Star Wars type movie. It works well for a lot of things really.
Take the Yankees, for example. Yes, we still do talk about the Yankees here, even though they really aren't doing much of anything right now. In a recent episode of Yankees Hot Stove, noted Clash fan Jack Curry had a phone interview with Yankees' first baseman prospect and overall town darling Greg Bird. In it, they discuss how the Yankees have not talked to Bird about trying out different positions simply to make the 2016 roster. Bird said he's willing to do whatever the Yankees' ask of him, because Greg Bird is the Greg Birdiest! Keeping Bird at first is probably the correct decision, even if it means he starts the year in Triple-A. You can watch the interview below.
In other baseball news, Brandon Phillips of the fire-sale mode Cincinnati Reds is possibly being traded to the Nationals. Phillips has a no-trade clause in place, so it's unclear whether or not he'd waive it to go to the Nats. With the current state of the Nats clubhouse, I doubt anyone would be surprised if he wanted to stay in Cincinnati. Meanwhile, Hisashi Iwakuma is heading back to the Seattle Mariners. Iwakuma did not pass the Dodgers' physical after previously agreeing to a three-year contract, so Seattle re-signed him for a year. Currently, the Dodgers rotation is still just Clayton Kershaw and friends.
Comments of the Day
No COTDs today.
GIF of the Day
Just so we're clear, this is the greatest line of dialog in all of the prequel Star Wars movies.
Honorable Mod Mention
You know, I have no idea who wins this. I guess all the mods that saw Star Wars last night.
Fun Questions
- Which aspect of The Force appeals to you the most? (Powers, the idea behind it, etc.)
- Which current member of the Yankees' would make a great Jedi Master?
Song of the Day
The Battle of Endor (Part 1) by John Williams
It's Sci-Fi/Fantasy Star Wars week on Pinstripe Alley. Like I said, I think we're done with the other Sci-Fi themes. Let's just stick to Star Wars for now. The opening to this song is one of the best in the entire series. As always, please link us your song of the day.
Feel free to use this as your open thread for the day. What do you think of Greg Bird after watching that interview?
