PSA Comments of the Day 12/13/15: About Retirement

Michael Cuddyer recently announced his retirement. It came as somewhat of a shock to the baseball world, considering he was not that old for a baseball player and that he still had a year and some money left on his contract with the Mets. Yesterday, he made a post on The Player's Tribune describing what lead him to his decision. Cuddyer's retirement reminded me a bit about when Mattingly retired back in the 90's. When injuries take our favorite players from us before our time, it can be a sad thing. Whether he was a Yankee or not, Cuddyer's retirement is a reminder about how taxing injuries and recovering from said injuries can truly be.

There is a rumor that Carlos Beltran might retire after his contract with the Yankees has expired at the end of next season. Beltran has said in the past that his dream was to play for the Yankees. It's very possible that after his pinstriped tenure is up, he could call it quits. It's highly doubtful that the Yankees will re-sign him after next season. Factoring in his obviously decline in defense, who knows if another team will take a chance on him to be anything other than a DH. We'll have to wait a while to see what he decides, but Beltran has already had an impressive career. If 2016 is his final year, I'm all for getting him a ring to celebrate it.
