The off-season continues. While no baseball was played, we were not left without any baseball news. Yesterday morning, the Washington Nationals officially hired Dusty Baker to be their new manager and take over for Matt Williams. Initially it seemed they had a deal with former San Diego Padres skipper, Bud Black, but the Nationals made him an offer that left him (and me too even though I have nothing to do with this, the point is it was a pretty bad offer) "deeply offended." So Black backed out and the Nationals pursued Baker and made him the manager.
The Baker hire does one good thing as MLB came very close to having zero managers of African American descent. However, the Baker hire does come with some controversy as some in the industry say he pushes his pitchers too much and doesn't know when is enough with them. Baker inherits a team that had World Series aspirations before the 2015 season began, and just became a clusterbunting mess. Luckily though, they're just one simple fix away from becoming a World Series contender....according to one person who does not understand things.
In Yankees news, yesterday Brendan Ryan picked up his option for the 2016 season (one day historians will wonder why he had an option for the 2016 season) and the Yankees declined Andrew Bailey's option for 2016.
Comments of the Day
I need some commentsation for the lack of CotDs.
GIF of the Day
The Nationals are one awesome montage away from making the World Series! I wonder who plays Mushu...
Honorable Mod Mention
Tanya gets it because she qualified to win it. Oh and I win it too because I created today's GotD. You're welcome, World. Now that gif exists.
Fun Questions
- Riddle Me This (Yes, this is a Riddler riddle): I have billions of eyes, yet I live in darkness. I have millions of ears, yet only four lobes. I have no muscle, yet I rule two hemispheres. What am I?
- If Bryce Harper is Mulan and Dusty Baker is Li Shang, who on the Nationals is Mushu?
Song of the Day
Joker Meets His End (Again) by Kristopher Carter
It's Batman Week on Pinstripe Alley. When it's Batman Week you can't go this far without mentioning one of the best Batman shows out there, Batman Beyond. And with the mention of that comes Return of the Joker, which is definitely one of my favorite animated Batman movies.
Feel free to use this as your open thread for the day. How do you feel about the Bud Black/Dusty Baker/Nationals situation?
