Robinson Cano supposedly is unhappy in Seattle and with the direction of the franchise and would like to somehow return to New York. Unsurprisingly, this led to a lot of people sharing a lot of different opinions. It's definitely curious how so many people feel "betrayed" by Cano's decision to leave the Yankees for the Mariners, when in reality, it's probably Cano who probably has the best case for feeling betrayed. Sure the Yankees offered him a very large contract, but based off of what players of Cano's caliber were getting, their offer was nowhere near that. They basically made an offer just to save face, with no real intention of entering a bidding war for him. Both sides seem to have paid a price for this though. While I still agree with the Yankees decision to not offer Cano a 10 year contract, it sure would have been nice if he were still in pinstripes and manning second base for the team. Second base has been a mess ever since Cano left and there's no real resolution in sight.
What people seem to forget is that Cano was under no obligation to the fans or the franchise to just accept whatever deal they offered him. And again, even though it was a very hefty contract, it was still $65 million less than what Seattle offered him. That's a lot of money, and I can guarantee almost no one would turn down that kind of extra guarantee. There is absolutely no reason to do so. The funniest argument I can recall about this is "the Yankees offered more in Average Annual Value (AAV)", but that means absolutely nothing compared to the difference in the total guarantee. It stings a lot because he was one of the best players the Yankees had produced in a very long time, but it's very hard to fault the Yankees for not matching the Mariners' offer and it's very hard to fault Cano for accepting it. But oh, how sweet would it be to see Cano in those pinstripes again. Realistically though, nothing at all comes of this so it's just a moot point.

Today's HMM will also be handed out for a future reason. However, unlike yesterday, we know who the winner is: Greg. Greg wins because I am going on vacation and he will be returning to his throne of being the daily writer of the COTD thread for the next couple weeks. Yo go, Greg Coco!

Song of the Day
Walk by Foo Fighters
It's Marvel week on Pinstripe Alley. I had every intention of getting to the Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1, but Greg Shah beat me to it. In fact, he used the exact song I intended to use today. In light of that news, we're going to visit Asgard and listen to today's song from the movie Thor. If you don't like it, just meet me in the cafeteria and start a Foo Fight. Just know I am burdened with glorious purpose, and that purpose is to throw mashed potatoes at you.
Feel free to use this as your open thread for the day. Did you also have a match-up of bad vs. not-good in fantasy football? I sure did. Any plans for the Thanksgiving break?
