New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox - Hiroki Kuroda vs. Anthony Renaudo

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

After last night's loss to the Red Sox, the Yankees are now both five games in back of the second wild card and the AL East division-leading Orioles. They remain only 0.5 games in front of the Blue Jays, so, like I've said a million times before, they can't afford to lose tonight. Unfortunately, that might not mean anything as they couldn't afford to lose last night either, and well.

If the Yankees are going to go on a run, I'd certainly be interested to see where it takes them, but if they're just going to roll over and die, I'd prefer they do it swiftly so they can stop pretending that they're actually in "playoff mode." The September call ups are not only completely uninteresting, but a majority of them are actually pretty terrible. I'm not sure how that's going to help them.
