To be 25 years old and holding a place in the Yankees' rotation...
No, I'm not talking about Tanaka Time. He doesn't start until Tuesday in Seattle. I'm talking about Chase Whitley.
If the Yankees are going to get their season back on track- to be more than a .500 team and to contend for a playoff spot- the Yankees are going to need a few Cinderella stories. Yangervis Solarte is a good start. The emergence of Dellin Betances and Adam Warren makes a nice segment on a bullpen after an icon. But at least one starter has to unexpectedly make good in a big way.
In April, I thought it would be Michael Pineda, but he's on the DL with CC Sabathia.
Maybe Chase Whitley will make 2014 his season, the way Robinson Cano and Chien Ming Wang made 2005 all about them. Maybe tonight we're watching a new moment of Yankee history.
#WhitleyTime. It's a thing now.
Go Yankees. Go baseball.
