Game 57: Oakland Athletics at New York Yankees, Kazmir vs. Kuroda

A Whole New Ballgame

Dilip Vishwanat

It's been a pretty brutal week, hasn't it Yankee fans?

But a new series is always a fresh start, and the Yankees find themselves in a pretty solid position. Only 3 losses off the pace in the AL East, the Yankees have a chance to make a statement against a very good Athletics team.

They send veteran Hiroki Kuroda to the mound. Kuroda was better in May than he was in April, so hopefully that upward trend can continue. They face old nemesis Scott Kazmir. It's incredible to believe that Kazmir is in his 10th big league season and only just turned 30, but he's always pitched the Bombers tough, besting most of his career marks- his strike out to walk ratio drops when facing the Yanks, but he does a better than normal job of keeping them off-base and in the ballpark.

If the Yankees can get to Kazmir early, they have a chance to run through the A's bullpen and make it a long stay in New York. Here's hoping.

Go Yankees. Go baseball.
