It's another battle of rookies tonight in Safeco Field as the Yankees go for the sweep against the Mariners. Yankees rookie Chase Whitley will take the mound against Mariners rookie Roenis Elias. Chase Whitley pitched a great game his last outing against the Royals, only giving up two runs and five hits over seven innings, which earned him his first major league win. Here's hoping Whitley can repeat that outing against the Mariners tonight. If not, thankfully the bullpen is nice and rested thanks to the phenomenal pitching of one Masahiro Tanaka last night.
Chase Whitley will not have an easy opponent though. In his last outing against the Yankees, Roenis Elias held the Yankees to two runs and six hits over seven innings. He also struck out ten Yankees that day. Yikes. Perhaps the Yankees offense will figure him out this time. Perhaps.
