After starting the season 3-3 against the Astros and Blue Jays, the Yankees are back in the Bronx to open the Yankee Stadium gates for the 2014 season. Third-year Yankee Hiroki Kuroda pitches against the Orioles' big starting pitcher acquisition from the 2013-14 off-season, righty Ubaldo Jimenez. Neither starter won their 2014 debuts, though Kuroda (6 IP, 2 ER, 4 baserunners) pitched better than Ubaldo (6 IP, 4 ER, 9 baserunners). Granted, Ubaldo was pitching against the Red Sox and Kuroda was pitching against the Astros, but that's it for results so far. Although he's prone to walks and dingers, Ubaldo's a strikeout artist, so the Yankees should be on their guard.
The game will be available on YES and MLB.tv. According to LoHud's Chad Jennings, baseline introductions will begin at 12:44, the national anthem will be sung by Broadway singer Kelli O'Hara at 12:56, and the first pitches will be thrown by Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera to Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada at 1:06. First pitch is at 1:08, but we'll see how timely they are.
Here are the lineups:
Go Yankees, go baseball.
