It's been a solid week for New York rivalry games. I see Tampa Bay and Boston as the Yankees' main in-division rivals.
Outside the division, the Tigers are an obvious choice, having bounces the Yankees from the playoffs in 2011 and 2012. But for me, the Yankees' chief out-of-division rivals are the Angels. No other team has caused me quite so much heartbreak, nor so consistently seemed to bedevil the Bombers.
On the bright side, I get to watch Albert Pujols hit; but on the downside, he comes to Yankee Stadium red hot after slugging his 500th career homerun. On the bright side, I get to watch Mike Trout play baseball the way Mantle and Mays did at their best; on the downside, I have to be reminded that the Angels drafted him with the pick they received when New York signed Mark Teixeira.
Go Yankees. Go baseball.
