Winter Meetings Open Thread 12/11/14: Brandon McCarthy, along with 75% of all baseball players, now on Dodgers

New, comments

The Yankees were relatively quiet yesterday. The Dodgers were "turn it down before I call the cops" loud. They made a bunch of trades and signed Brandon McCarthy. Let's see what Day 4 brings. Pitchers and catchers report in 70 days.

I'm TRYING to sleep, Dodgers! And yes, I sleep in a suit and tie.

It's Day Four of the Winter Meetings, currently taking place in San Diego this year. The Yankees were mostly quiet yesterday. Everyone was still buzzing about the Cubs signing Jon Lester. Then the Dodgers came in like a boss. They traded Dee Gordon and Dan Haren to the Marlins for four young players. Then they traded one of those young players, Andrew Heaney, to the Angels for Howie Kendrick. They also traded for Jimmy Rollins, signed Brandon McCarthy to the exact four year, $48 million dollar deal he wanted, and as of 4:30AM are on the verge of trading Matt Kemp to the Padres. Rumor has it they are trying to trade the moon for the sun next.

Comments of the Day

We're still reeling over the sting of losing David Robertson.

This will make more sense once you get to the HMM section

Rob Refsnyder has jokes!

Sources confirm: 2015 will be better than 2014.

I MARVEL'd at this post. 'Nuff said.

Romo money Romo problems

LTL thinks Carlos Beltran is going to get injured. It might be a safe bet.

Cashman's got jokes

"If the mole were here..."

It was around this time we learned that the Dodgers signed Brandon McCarthy. Sigh.

I like the way Tanya thinks!

Jon Lester's got jokes. It's nice to be able to continue liking him.

What is a yout?

Miss you, D-Rob.

Honorable Mod Mention

We have two HMM awards today.

Matt Freedom reminds us, via embed tweet, that Jimmy Rollins had jokes during the '09 World Series. Oh wait, he was serious?

Andrew shows us that D-Rob loves us, even on his way out. Farewell, David Robertson. Best of luck in Chicago.

Fun Questions
  • Winter Meetings: about those Dodgers?
  • What are Brian Cashman's top priorities now?
Song of the Day

I figured this would be appropriate with David Robertson and Brandon McCarthy now gone. As always, please link us your Song of the Day.

Please use this as your Open Thread for discussing the Winter Meetings. What are you hoping to see from the Yankees today now that Brandon McCarthy is heading to LA? What are your thoughts on Wade Miley in Fenway Park? Is Max Scherzer signed before the Winter Meetings come to an end?

Someday, love will find you!
