Yankees prospects: May statistics from the farm - Triple-A & Double-A

Checking in on the statistics of Yankee minor leaguers at the conclusion of May. Many numbers lie ahead. You've been warned.

USA TODAY Sports

Yankees' prospects have finally gotten in a full month of the season, and with that comes a bigger sample size on which to judge their performance. Anyone can have a hot or cold few weeks, but more at-bats and innings pitched tend to even out the streaks. A little less than two months into the MiLB season, this is where the Yankee prospects stand so far.

Here was last month's post, if you need a quick refresher. Now, on to May.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders:

Unsurprisingly, Melky Mesa is leading the International League in strikeouts by 22 over the second-highest batter, Wil Myers. Thomas Neal's .353 batting average is good enough for second in the IL, but Neal leads the league in OBP. Call him up, please.

Wang's ERA is second-best in the International League, while his WHIP is fifth in the league. Bootcheck didn't have as impressive of a May as his outstanding April, but his WHIP still made the top ten in the league. On the other end of the spectrum, Brett Marshall's 28 walks are sixth-highest in the IL for the season so far.

Despite getting off to a rough start to the season, Tyler Austin has drawn the fifth most walks in the Eastern League so far in 2013. Austin also has the tenth most RBI in the league with 32 this season. The Thunder offense was supposed to be a juggernaut with an all-prospect outfield, but it's only been that in glimpses throughout the season. Neil Medchill started the season absolutely on fire, but he has since racked up the second most strikeouts in the league. Kyle Roller isn't far behind in that department at fifth.

Matt Tracy had a nice May after a disastrous April. His 10.98 ERA in April was lowered to a 1.62 ERA last month. Zach Nuding's 3.28 ERA is good enough for twelfth best in the Eastern League. Unfortunately, on the other end of the ERA leader board, Tracy's 5.09 ERA is fourth highest in the league. Nik Turley is tied for ninth in the EL in strikeouts with 58 on the season. Turley and Tracy rank fourth and second, respectively, in most walks issued so far this season. Things have gone pretty poorly for the Thunder pitchers not named Jose Ramirez.

A day or so of June statistics were included in the total because of procrastination. My apologies. A similar post for High-A and Low-A is to follow.
