An Interview with Jordan Barnes, Yankees 15th round draft pick

USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Barnes was drafted 464th overall by the Yankees in the 15th round of the 2013 MLB Draft and is a right-handed hitting outfielder out of Northwest Mississippi Community College. He was nice enough to answer a few questions for me and Pinstriped Bible.

What was your reaction to being drafted, especially by the Yankees?

I was really excited to be drafted because it's been a dream of mine every since I started playing. The Yankees were the team that i really wanted to play for. I mean, after all, who doesn't want to wear pinstripes? It's the best organization.

Who was your favorite player growing up?

My favorite player coming up was Ken Griffey Jr.

Who do you model your game after?

I model my game after Torii Hunter. I've admired him in the outfield, being fearless.

What do you think is your greatest strength as a player?

I think my greatest strength is my energy that I bring and my speed and ability to make plays and make things happen on the bases.

What do you aim to improve on the most in your first year of pro ball?

I'm going to aim more on getting my power numbers up and becoming more consistent.

What was the workout process like and how was the New York Yankees organization different than the other teams you worked out for?

The workout process was a great experience, I had five workouts, but none of them were like the Yankees. The Yankees did it right. I felt like a Yankee. I had my own locker with my name on it and Yankees gear to wear. It was a great experience and one of the most memorable days of baseball for me.

You ran into Alex Rodriguez, right?

Yes, I was walking to the bathroom when I ran into A-Rod. That was pretty cool.

What has been the best moment of your career so far?

I would have to say a great moment is to just be given the opportunity to play professional baseball at 18 years old and for the Yankees. Draft day was the best day of my career.

What are you looking forward to the most in your first year of pro ball?

Just being able to play baseball every single day and be able to go out and work on my game to make it to the big leagues.

Where are you being assigned?

I'll be starting in the rookie league with the GCL Yankees

Thanks a lot for your time, Jordan, and good luck in 2013 and beyond! Pinstriped Bible will be rooting for you. You can follow him on twitter @jbarnes213
