Jayson Nix is once again batting second tonight and for some reason Vernon Wells is still being inserted into the heart of the lineup. It's approaching Ben Francisco-like territory. Meanwhile Lyle Overbay is hitting eighth, behind David Adams and Thomas Neal.
A better lineup might be Gardner, Ichiro, Cano, Overbay, Overbay, Wells, Neal, Nix, Stewart. That's just me. If you want to sit Wells, I might bat Almonte second.
Zoilo Almonte has officially been called up and Chris Bootcheck has been designated for assignment. He's obviously not in the lineup tonight, but hopefully he will get into a game soon. Wells hasn't done much of anything since April, so it's about time a legitimate prospect got called up to get a chance to claim a job on the big league team.
Francisco Rondon has been called up to Scranton. It's been a whirlwind of a season for the 25-year-old lefty after moving to the rotation, failing, getting designated for assignment, staying with Trenton, and now moving up as a reliever. He had a 6.99 ERA in six starts, but a 3.86 ERA with a 9.4 K/9 in 16.1 innings out of the bullpen.
