Baby Bomber Recap 4/8/13: RailRiders pick up their first win

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders: W 4-2 vs. Rochester Red Wings

Melky Mesa 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K - first homer of the season
David Adams 1-3, 2B, BB, K, E5 - fielding error
Zoilo Almonte 0-4, 3 K - 2 for 17 to start the season
Austin Romine 2-4, K
Corban Joseph 1-4
Thomas Neal 1-3, 2 RBI - seven runs batted in this season

Chris Bootcheck 5 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 4 K - 51 of 84 pitches for strikes
Ryan Pope 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 K
Juan Cedeno 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER
Cody Eppley 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 11 of 17 pitches for strikes

The RailRiders got their first win of the season behind a strong start by Chris Bootcheck and some offensive contributions by Melky Mesa and Austin Romine. SWB will go for the series win against the Red Wings tomorrow at 6:35.

Double-A Trenton Thunder: L 7-15 vs. New Hampshire Fisher Cats

Slade Heathcott 0-4, BB, K
Ramon Flores 0-5, 3 K
Tyler Austin 2-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, K - batting .353 to start the season
JR Murphy 0-3, BB, K, PB
Kyle Roller 1-4, RBI, K
Rob Segedin 1-4, K
Neil Medchill 1-4, RBI, K - 7 for 15 to start the year, has hit in every game so far

Matt Tracy 0.1 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, K - welp
Shaeffer Hall 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, K
Josh Romanski 0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R/2 ER, BB - welp x 2
Kelvin Perez 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, K
Branden Pinder 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, BB - welp x 3
Shane Brown 0.2 IP, 0 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, HBP - welp x 4, but in his defense, he's an outfielder

The pitchers, for the most part, were too terrible to give the Thunder a chance in this one. It's awesome to see Tyler Austin hitting so well in his first real taste of Double-A. Heathcott, on the other hand, has not done very well. The Thunder try to make tomorrow's game less of a dumpster fire against New Hampshire at 5:05 pm.

High-A Tampa Yankees: Off

Yankees travel to Dunedin to take on the Blue Jays tomorrow at 6:30 pm.

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs: W 9-4 vs. West Virginia Power

Cito Culver 2-5, K
Rob Refsnyder 3-3, 2 2B, 2 BB, SB, E4 - throwing error
Greg Bird 1-4, BB, 2 K - off to a .412 start
Dante Bichette Jr. 1-5, HR, 5 RBI, K - grand slam, one HR away from last year's total
Yeicok Calderon 0-5, K
Peter O'Brien 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, K - first HR of the year
Saxon Butler 1-4, 2B, K
Taylor Dugas 2-4, RBI, CS - 7 for 15 to start the year

Jose Campos 3 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, BB, 3 K, 2 HBP - first action since early last year
Evan Rutckyj 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, K - 12 groundouts (!!!), one flyout
Charlie Short 1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 K

DBJ is showing some impressive power early in the minor league season, already trailing last year's home run total by one after last night's grand slam. Jose Campos wasn't fantastic in his return, but he hasn't pitched in a long time and that's probably to be expected. The RiverDogs try to take the series tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
