Corban Joseph 0-2, 2 BB
Zoilo Almonte 1-3, RBI, BB
David Adams 0-3, BB
Austin Romine 0-3, BB, 2 K
Thomas Neal 1-3, RBI, BB, 2 K
Addison Maruszak 1-3, BB
Brett Marshall 3.2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 2 WP - 45 of 83 pitches for strikes. His Triple-A debut.
Sam Demel 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, BB, 4 K, WP
Josh Spence 2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, BB, 4 K
Preston Claiborne 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, K - nine-pitch inning
Brett Marshall was rocked in his first start with SWB and the RailRiders' offense couldn't manage any runs until the eighth inning. Almonte grounded into two double plays, which didn't help their cause. They will take on the Rochester Red Wings tomorrow at home.
Double-A Trenton Thunder: W 9-7 vs. Portland Sea Dogs
Slade Heathcott 2-6, 2B, 3 K
Ramon Flores 2-5, 2 RBI
Tyler Austin 3-5, 2B - batting .308 through the first series of the season
JR Murphy 1-4, HBP
Neil Medchill 2-3, 2B, RBI, BB - batting .545 in this series against the Sea Dogs
Rob Segedin 3-5, 2B, 3 RBI
Jose Pirela 1-4, BB, 2 E4 - one fielding, one throwing
Francisco Rondon 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, BB, 6 K - Surprise! He's a starter again now.
Danny Burawa 1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, WP
Tom Kahnle 1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, BB
Branden Pinder 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, BB, K
This Thunder offense is scary, scoring in all but four innings today. Francisco Rondon started a game for the first time since 2009, and it didn't go too badly for him. If he can be a legitimate starter instead of LOOGY, his value will certainly rise. Trenton travels to New Hampshire to take on the Fisher Cats tomorrow at 6:35 pm. Matt Tracy gets the start.
High-A Tampa Yankees: L 1-3 vs. Lakeland Flying Tigers
Mason Williams 2-4, 2B
Angelo Gumbs 0-4
Ben Gamel 1-4, 2B - batting .444 through the first series of the season
Gary Sanchez 0-4, K
Zach Wilson 1-3, BB, K
Anderson Feliz 1-4, 2 K, CS
Francisco Arcia 1-4, HR, K
Mikey O'Brien 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 4 K, HBP - four groundouts, five flyouts
John Brebbia 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 K, HBP
Yankees' starter Mikey O'Brien gave up three runs in the second inning, but the team couldn't really muster any offense to pick him up with Francisco Arcia's solo home run being their only scoring of the day. Tampa has the day off tomorrow before traveling to Dunedin to take on the Blue Jays.
Low-A Charleston RiverDogs: W 5-0 vs. Greenville Drive
Cito Culver 0-5, 2 K
Rob Refsnyder 3-4
Greg Bird 3-4, HR, 2 RBI
Dante Bichette Jr. 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, K - hit only three HRs last season
Yeicok Calderon 0-4
Fu-Lin Kuo 1-3, 2B, BB, K
Taylor Dugas 2-4
Gabriel Encinas 6 IP, 1 H (!!!), 3 BB, 4 K - 52 of 76 pitches for strikes, 11 groundouts, 0 flyouts
Brett Gerritse 1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, K
Taylor Garrison 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, K
Gabriel Encinas was fantastic in shutting down the Drive offense, allowing only one hit to go along with a slew of ground balls. The RiverDogs got some welcome power out of the middle of their lineup with DBJ and Greg Bird homering to give them more than enough offense to win the game. Charleston travels to take on the West Virginia Power tomorrow at 7:05 pm. Jose Campos gets his first start since missing most of last season with an elbow injury.
