Here's a little bit of minor news to clear up 21 hours before the Yankees begin the 2013 season:
Clay Rapada designated for assignment to open roster spot for Lyle Overbay. #yankees

Overbay was the last player that needed to be added to the Yankees' roster, and it looks like the injured Rapada was a necessary casualty. Even though Rapada pitched well against lefties last year, elbow shoulder bursitis is keeping him away from the Yanks, and the team evidently thought it wasn't worth cutting useful minor league players like Corban Joseph and Melky Mesa to keep Rapada. There's still a chance he stays with the Yankees as long as the other 29 teams decide they don't want an injured LOOGY, but we will have to see. Thoughts, Clay?
@yankees it's been real...

...okay then.
Anyway, here are your 2013 Yankees:
Catchers: Francisco Cervelli, Chris Stewart
First basemen: Lyle Overbay, Mark Teixeira (DL)
Second basemen: Robinson Cano, Jayson Nix (also SS/3B/OF)
Shortstop: Eduardo Nunez, Derek Jeter (DL)
Third base: Kevin Youkilis (also 1B), Alex Rodriguez (DL)
Outfield: Vernon Wells (primary LF), Brett Gardner (primary CF), Ichiro Suzuki (primary RF), Ben Francisco, Brennan Boesch, Curtis Granderson (DL)
DH: Travis Hafner
Starting rotation: CC Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda, Andy Pettitte, Ivan Nova, David Phelps, Phil Hughes (DL), Michael Pineda (DL)
Bullpen: Mariano Rivera, David Robertson, Joba Chamberlain, Boone Logan, Shawn Kelley, Cody Eppley, Adam Warren, Cesar Cabral (DL)
Unlikelier things have happened than a roster like this playing well for a month. Given the strength of their starting pitching, they can certainly overcome any difficulties their offense might have.
