Yankees Offseason: thirteen file for free agency

New, comments
Mike Stobe

As of 9 am today twelve Yankees have filed for free agency. Robinson Cano, Hiroki Kuroda, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Curtis Granderson, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Boone Logan, Lyle Overbay, Kevin Youkilis, Travis Hafner, Brendan Ryan, and Mark Reynolds are no longer members of the New York Yankees organization.

In five days the Yankees will be able to extend qualifying offers to Cano, Granderson, Kuroda, and possibly Hughes. If they accept, they play for $14.1 million in 2014, if they decline, the Yankees get an extra draft pick from their new team. We'll find out what is what a week later.

In six days they will be allowed to sign with any team they choose. Mo and Pettitte are obviously retiring, and it's unlikely that that the Yankees bring back Joba, Hafner, Overbay, and Youkilis. That leaves seven players the Yankees could sign.
