Two weeks ago, Alex Rodriguez's lawyer Joe Tacopina had to be physically restrained to ensure that he did not get into a physical altercation at MLB's headquarters. According to sources, he instigated a fight with Julio Ayala, one of the attorneys that is representing Anthony Bosch of Biogenesis.
Tacopina has unleashed an aggressive attack against Bosh's credibility to bring into doubt evidence that MLB says proves A-Rod had acquired banned substances over several years. The two lawyers apparently came to blows between sessions.
The sources told the Daily News that Tacopina - who was frustrated that Bosch's testimony had dominated the first three days of the hearing - asked another MLB attorney how long he planned on having baseball's most important witness on the stand during the break in the testimony on Oct. 2.
The attorney, the sources said, told Tacopina that Bosch's testimony would take several more hours and might spill over to the next day. "Well, I guess we have all of October, and by then Mr. Bosch will be in jail," Tacopina replied, referring to the fact that Bosch and his now-defunct clinic are being investigated by Florida state authorities and federal law-enforcement officials from the Southern District of Florida.
"If he is, he is not going alone," Ayala fired back.
Tacopina ... then made a derogatory statement about Ayala and "his lying wife," Susy Ribero-Ayala, another attorney representing Bosch, angering Julio Ayala. Tacopina then "bull-rushed" Ayala, who went toe-to-toe with Tacopina, in the words of one source.
The two were separated by other attorneys before any punches could be thrown. It is unknown whether or not arbitrator Frederic Horowitz witnessed the altercation, but both Rodriguez and Bosch were in the men's room at the time. The two attorneys reportedly made amends the next day when Tacopino apologized.
This whole story is getting absolutely ridiculous to the point where there is now physical violence, and between two lawyers! This won't change anything in proceedings, but tempers could flare up again in and out of court. Also, how awkward a potty break that must have been for A-Rod and Bosch.
