Staff Q&A Sunday - 9/23/12

Here we go again. More info and hilarious Q&A from your excellent staff. Also, feel free to use this as your open thread for the evening and answer the questions yourself, if it pleases you.

1. Questions of certain decisions of the Yankees organization might soon come into question if they don't make the playoffs. What decisions have bothered you the most this pre-season/season?

Tanya

Trading Montero for a pitcher that ending up missing the entire season will always sting for me, but I think the most frustration decision has been sticking with Ibanez and Jones so long, even after rosters expanded to 40. The team still uses them as starters and will continue to if they make the playoffs and that just doesn't make a lot of sense with how they've been hitting.

I'm fine with all the moves that have been made this year. Not everything works according to plan, but I think Cashman did a good job putting the Yankees in a good position to be successful this season.

Matt

Not finding a non-oogy reliever at the deadline and passing on George Kottaras. Very minor gripes, though. Injuries making the lack of movement look worse than it really is.

Mark

Retaining Robinson Cano. That dude hardly ever runs as fast as I think he could run.

Greg

I really was not happy with how gung ho they were for Raul Ibanez this offseason. I'm still not.

2. If Cashman or Girardi were ever fired, who would you like to replace them?

Tanya

Ugh, don't fire Cashman. If he had to go, I think Alex Anthopoulos has impressed me with his moves as much as anyone else. But seriously, keep Cashman. For Girardi, I've always said I'd like to see Tony Pena be the manager, but I don't really know whether he'd be better or worse, I just like him a lot.

Andrew

If Cash was fired, I would replace him with Damon Oppenheimer, who is the Yankees' Amateur Scouting Director. He helped emphasize the importance of the draft to the Yankees and has produced some late, great finds who have succeeded at the major league level like David Robertson and David Phelps. Look for similarly late picks Tyler Austin and Mark Montgomery to likewise excel soon.

If Girardi was fired, I would love to see Willie Randolph get a shot at the position. He got a raw deal with the Mets when he really did a fine job in Queens. Additionally, if the Larry Rothschild and Kevin Long were fired, I think David Cone and Jason Giambi would make fine replacements since they are terrific students of the game at their respective specialties (though Giambi would obviously need to retire first).

Rob

Donald Trump and Mark Cuban

Matt

Bobby Valentine and Dayton Moore.Things don't seem so bad now, do they?

Mark

John Bonham and Charlemagne

Greg

Haha, I really have no idea.

3. If you could choose any person to be the "voice of the New York Yankees" and do the play by play for the Yankees radio network, who would you choose? This can be anyone. A favorite voice actor, a famous actor or actress, or anyone.

Tanya

Anyone not named John Sterling would be pretty ok with me.

Andrew

If Cone isn't going to be pitching coach, I would be a big proponent of a Cone/Ken Singleton booth. Singleton's good at hitting analysis and play-by-play, while Cone adds great pitching insight.

Rob

Darth Vader

Matt

Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Walken

Mark

Morgan Freeman, the narrator.

Greg

Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, the voice of The Joker and Batman in Batman: TAS. In their role voices, no less.

4. What was your favorite cartoon growing up? Did you even watch cartoons?

Tanya

Does Hey Arnold count? Because that was totally my favorite.

Andrew

I basically watched ALL the cartoons. If I were to pick one to watch over and over again until eternity, it would be either Wile E. Coyote/Road Runner or Tom & Jerry. I would convince whoever is limiting me that they're basically the same thing.

Rob

Thundercats

Matt

X-Men, though years and several re-watches later, I find myself wondering what Jubilee's utility was. I think I was just easily entertained by flashing lights back then.

Mark

I did not watch cartoons, I was outside eating dirt and playing with sticks.

Greg

The original Thundercats.
