Hiroki Kuroda pitched a terrific game tonight for the Yankees, as they defeated the Indians 7-1. The Yankees are now 44-28 and would have the best record in baseball if the Rangers lose to the Tigers tonight.
First of all, I want to give as much credit as possible to Hiroki Kuroda. While fans seem to be focusing on other pitchers such as CC Sabathia, (ace) Ivan Nova, (wins) and Phil Hughes (inconsistency) Hiroki Kuroda has quietly made an excellent transition from the NL to the AL for the Yankees. After being declared a "NL" pitcher, Kuroda has proved his doubters wrong. Tonight Kuroda surrendered only one run in seven spectacular innings pitched.
Now, onto the part of the recap you can expect every single night. That's right, the too many home runs! Four of the Yankees seven runs came from home runs, as Dewayne Wise, Robinson Cano, and Nick Swisher all went yard for the Yankees. New York could have won without the home runs, but the narrative does not care about that, so the Yankees hit too many home runs and won AGAIN!
Always nice to see the Yankees win games in which they dominate the entire time, especially when the team plays complete baseball. The offense, the defense, and the pitching were all fantastic, and even Robinson Cano got a hit with a runner in scoring position.
Tomorrow I will be in the Bronx to see Phil Hughes battle Justin Masterson in the second game of the series. Hopefully the outcome is similar to tonight!
