Pinstripe Alley has recovered from Freddy Garcia's awful start with a new site slogan to show for it, so if you're looking for a silver lining to take from yesterday, there it is! Aside from that, here's what's going on in the world of Yankees baseball:
- AAA starter D.J. Mitchell is likely to be called up to the big leagues soon, as the Winston-Salem Journal reports. It would give the Yankees another helpful arm for their bullpen, which needs relief after heavy work following starts by Garcia and Phil Hughes. Best of luck.

"We are excited and this is such great news."Doug Mitchell and his wife, Rodessa, booked a flight to New York on Saturday and were flying to New York this morning to attend the game."His mother and I couldn't be prouder of him because he's worked so hard," Doug said.Mitchell is in his fourth year of pro baseball and was pitching for the Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, where he was 2-1 with 3.13 ERA in four games, all as a starter.
UPDATE: The Yankees' official Twitter account (@YankeesPR) has confirmed that Mitchell has been called up for the game today.
- RAB says that injured outfielder Brett Gardner took swings for the first time since going on the 15-day DL today, and that there was no pain. As Mike Axisa noted, hopefully the Yankees don't have to go much longer with the horrid outfield play of Raul Ibanez.
- The Yankees moved Andy Pettitte's next start to Single-A Tampa so that he does not suffer any injuries related to cold weather. It's a good decision, especially since they need Pettitte to come back soon if Garcia and Hughes keep pitching the way they have.
- Joba Chamberlain was back in pinstripes for the first time since his serious ankle injury yesterday. The Yankees have not yet announced a timetable for his return, but here's hoping Joba has a successful recovery.
- Jose Campos was hit hard for the first time this year, as he gave up seven hits and eight runs in only 2.2 innings at Low-A Charleston. The rough start was likely just a small bump in the road for Campos, but it wasn't great to hear. On the plus side, Tyler Austin hit two home runs, so he continues to rake.
- David Phelps is good. Joe Girardi should take note.
