Performers of the Week: Week 2

Over the last seven days, the Yankees have gone just 3-3. Some players have had exceptional weeks, while others, like Nick Swisher and Russell Martin, have not. But let's focus on the positives of the last seven days.

Batters:

Derek Jeter: This is the easiest choice of the week, and he's a no-brainer for performer of the week. Over the last seven days, Jeter has hit for a .407 batting average to go along with an .815 SLG. That translates to a .501 wOBA(!) and a 220 wRC+(!). If there is one downside to his week, it's that Jeter didn't take a single walk, but that's an exceptionally minor quibble in an otherwise stellar week for the Captain.

Brett Gardner: Gardner landed on the DL yesterday, but that doesn't take away from the fantastic week he put together. Gardner hit .273/.467/.455, good for a .426 wOBA and a 170 wRC+. Get healthy soon.

Robinson Cano: Cano's numbers took a boost from last night's performance, but he still finished his last seven days with a .273/.385/.545 line, good for a .408 wOBA and a 157 wRC+. He walked 15.4% of the time as well. Could Cano finally be making the transition into a complete hitter, one with power, contact ability, and patience?

Mark Teixeira: Teixeira gets a nod here for his .371 wOBA and 133 wRC+, but a .050 ISO will not cut it from a starting first baseman. Teixeira has hit .350/.409/.400 over the last week, and while his batting average and on-base percentage look pretty, the Yankees really need him to start driving the ball.

Honorable Mentions: Raul Ibanez (.350 wOBA, 118 wRC+)

Pitchers:

CC Sabathia: Over the last seven days, Sabathia has put together a pitching triple slash line (ERA/FIP/xFIP) of 3.68/3.19/2.94. He had a groundball rate of 45%, while striking out 8.59 per 9 innings and walking just 1.23 per 9. The Yankees will need more of this from Sabathia while the rotation straightens itself out.

David Robertson: Only a 6 K/9 for Robertson this week, but he didn't walk anyone in three innings of work and has yet to allow a run this season. He had a FIP of just 1.58.

Clay Rapada: The LOOGY put together a solid week, with a 9 K/9 and 3 BB/9 while not allowing a run over three innings of work. He also induced groundballs at a 71.4% clip, the highest of Yankees pitchers over the last seven days. He had a FIP of 1.92.

Honorable Mentions: Cory Wade (1.42 FIP, but a 6.75 ERA) and David Phelps (5 1/3 IP, 1.69 ERA, but a 4.98 FIP knocks him down to this section).
