Pinstripe Alley Open Thread 4/12/2012

The Bombers have the evening off before they open up Yankee Stadium's gates tomorrow and welcome the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to town for the first of a three game series. In the meantime, here's what has gone on today and what's on the schedule for this evening...

Speaking of the Angels, they'll be limping into the Bronx tomorrow after dropping the rubber game of a three game series, 10-9, out in Minnesota against the Twins (2-4) earlier this afternoon. Josh Willingham has hit his fourth home run today for Minnesota in six games (wow...). Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer also both went yard. The Angels are off to a slow start, losing four of six to open the season.

The Detroit Tigers (5-1) took care of business against the Tampa Bay Rays (4-2) today, winning the rubber game by the score of 7-2. Carlos Pena hit his third home run of the season and Jeff Neimann was tagged with the loss. The Yankees now trail the Rays by one game in the American League East.

The Texas Rangers (5-2) knocked off the Seattle Mariners (4-4) by the score of 5-3. Michael Young hit his first home run of the season while Derek Holland struck out eight in 7 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits.

Matt Garza tossed 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball today for the Cubs while striking out nine and allowing only three hits as Chicago beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-0.

Gio Gonzalez's second start with the Washington Nationals (5-2) went much more smoothly than his first, as he pitched 7 shutout innings against the Cincinnati Reds (3-4) allowing only two hits while striking out seven. Alfredo Simon threw a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th that allowed Ryan Zimmerman to score and that's how the Nats walked off on the Reds, 3-2.

San Francisco Giants (2-4) survived a bottom of the ninth, bases loaded scenario against the Colorado Rockies (2-4) to hang on for the 4-2 win.

The Red Sox are still 1-5 LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

List of games beyond the jump.

Miami Marlins visit the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at 7:05 with Mark Buehrle against Joe Blanton.

Arizona Diamondbacks take on the San Diego Padres at 10:05. Ian Kennedy (former Yankee) vs. Anthony Bass (who?)

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at 10:10. Jeff Karstens (former Yankee) vs. Chris Capuano

Oh yeah, the New York Rangers host the Ottawa Senators at 7:00 tonight for their first game in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Other NHL games include Washington Capitals at Boston Bruins (7:30), San Jose Sharks vs. St. Louis Blues (7:30) and Chicago Blackhawks vs. Phoenix Coyotes (10:00).

Enjoy !
