Winter Meetings Day Three Open Thread

USA Today Sports

From day two, according to Chad Jennings over at LoHud:

- A team tried to take advantage of the announcement that Alex Rodriguez would miss the beginning of the season while recovering from hip surgery by asking for the world in return from a third baseman. Brian Cashman is not down for that, and is no longer speaking to said team.

- Cashman confirmed meeting with the agents for A.J. Pierzynski, Ichiro Suzuki, Eric Chavez, Kevin Youkilis, and Raul Ibanez.

- Joe Girardi wants someone who can play third base all season, just in case A-Rod's return doesn't go as planned.

- Cashman sees Brett Gardner and Curtis Granderson both as centerfielders, and says that they could always make a change if necessary.

Signing news:

- Red Sox signed Shane Victorino for three years, $39 million dollars. Jacoby Ellsbury could be put on the trading block.

- Dan Haren signed with the Washington Nationals for one year and $13 million dollars. The Dodgers are seen as the favorites to land Zack Greinke, who may end up with a $150 million dollar contract, according to rumors.

- Marco Scutaro returns to the Giants for three years and $20 million.
