The speculation can come to an end. Jesus Montero has spent less than a month at the Major League level, but his scorching bat has forced Joe Girardi to lock him in for a playoff spot.
In fifteen games for the Yankees, Montero is 18-for-52 (.346) with four homers and twelve RBIs, including a monster game against the Red Sox on Saturday afternoon. His on base percentage is .414 and his slugging is a massive .635. His gaudy numbers have led to a .445 wOBA, a 183 wRC+, and a 172 OPS+.
We are obviously discussing an extremely small sample here, but it is exciting nonetheless. Here is what Girardi had to say:
I can't imagine a scenario where he won't be on our postseason roster.
It seems as if Montero will be the back up catcher and serve as a DH option. Let's just hope they get the kid as many at bats as possible.
