New York Yankees 9 - Boston Red Sox 1

Mood Music - Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding

With home field throughout the playoffs only a few victories away, the New York Yankees went to their A lineup in the first of three games with the Boston Red Sox.  Delivering nine runs and knocking opposing starter Jon Lester out of the game in the third inning, the Yankees were able to enjoy a comfortable lead throughout.

In the second inning, Jesus Montero got the scoring started with a bases loaded single and Derek Jeter blew the game open with a three run home run.  Given lots of run support to work with, Freddy Garcia threw six scoreless innings, scattering six hits and a walk.

Later, Montero hit another impressive opposite field home run (Video) and the cavalcade of Valdes, Wade, Logan, Ayala, and Kontos combined for the final nine outs.

Tomorrow's doubleheader will feature Tim Wakefield vs. A.J. Burnett at 1:05 PM and John Lackey vs. Ivan Nova at 6:30 PM.
